Central Africa

The Central African countries of Uganda and Rwanda offer the unique and exhilarating opportunity of photographing Mountain Gorillas. Encountering this endangered species in their stunning natural habitat is a humbling experience and one that’s exclusive to a limited amount of people each year. From a photographic perspective, it’s phenomenal; you’re likely to get quite up close with these stunning animals, within the lush rainforests they inhabit. In the same countries, there are also opportunities for photographing chimpanzees and a wide range of monkeys. Moreover, Uganda offers some great classic safari experiences too, particularly in Queen Elizabeth National Park, where you can photograph lions, elephants, and a wide range of antelope. And for birding enthusiasts, Uganda is a true paradise; there are a whopping 1065 species of birds.

Apart from its varied wildlife photography opportunities, Uganda and Rwanda also offer exciting landscape and cultural photography options. Lush rainforests, green rolling hills, and striking lakes  form some of the vistas you’ll find here. Indigenous tribes, such as the Batwa, have fascinating cultures and traditions and are well worth a visit during a photography workshop.
