Southern  Africa

Southern Africa

Southern Africa is both spectacular and hugely varied as a photographic destination. The wildlife viewing is some of the best there is. In the private game reserves of South Africa’s Sabi Sands and Timbavati, you can spot and photograph the Big Five with ease. Lions will roam around your game drive vehicle, water holes are surrounded by elephants and buffalo, and if you look up, you might see a leopard in a tree with a fresh kill. Venturing to the more Southern Kwa-Zulu Natal region will give you great chances of excellent cheetah photography.

If you’re after a true wilderness experience, Botswana should be high on your list. Venturing into the Okavango Delta area will give you a hugely exclusive photo safari; photograph elephants on the water banks from traditional nkoros, encounter big cats in the vast salt pans, and have wildlife roam around your camp. For the biggest herds of elephants on the continent, you can venture to Chobe National Park.

But Southern Africa has more than wildlife to offer; is a brilliant landscape photography destination, too. Namibia is one of the obvious highlights in this category. With its vast deserts, its magnificent red sand dunes, its forests of quiver trees, and its surreal Skeleton Coast, this country is a landscape photographer’s dream. If you add South Africa’s stunning coast lines and mountainous landscapes of the Drakensberg, and Botswana’s deltas and deserts, you get a perfect recipe for a landscape photography workshop.
